It was founded during the progression of the Great Depression in the US. The two brothers started by selling ice creams in a small shop that they named Friendly. Back then, they were selling double-dip cones at the amount of 5 cents each. At the end of WWII, they restarted the company and opened 10 branches. By 1974, the success aimed high until they already opened over 500 branches. The big bulk of orders made them open a food processing plant in Troy, Ohio.

It now became part of Tennessee Foods and Smith added up the apostrophe-s in the name of the restaurant.

Friendly’s opened to be an ice cream shop and now it has fully grown to be a restaurant. It serves people with lunch, dinner, ice cream choices. Breakfast, and children’s menu. Their ice cream choices include Friend-z which is a homemade ice cream topped with different nuts, the traditional Sundaes, and their Fribble milkshake.
